Buckley Carlson, son of far-right podcaster Tucker Carlson, quits position in Vice President Vance’s office as his father’s feud with President Trump deepens.

Buckley Carlson, the son of far-right pundit and podcaster Tucker Carlson, has left his role as deputy press secretary to Vice President JD Vance, according to a report published by Politico over the weekend, in a move that landed amid a widening public clash between his father and President Donald Trump.
Buckley Carlson is leaving Vance’s press team to start a political consulting firm, according to the report.
A Vance official told Politico that “Buckley first informed the VP’s office of his intention to depart in December, but stayed on for several months to ensure a smooth transition,” a detail that has been used by Vance allies to argue the move was planned well before the latest Trump-Carlson rupture.
Even so, the timing has drawn attention because Tucker Carlson has become one of the loudest right-wing critics of Trump’s recent Iran policy, opening a very public rift inside the president’s MAGA base.
Earlier this month, Tucker Carlson denounced Trump’s comments on the Iran conflict, calling them “vile.”
Carlson later called Trump “a slave,” implying the president is beholden to pro-Israeli lobbyists.
“I’ve always liked the man, I feel sorry for him, as I do for all slaves. He is not free at all,” Carlson said.
Trump fired back in pair of comments to his Truth Social account, mocking Tucker Carlson as being a “low IQ person.”
That context has made Buckley Carlson’s departure politically awkward for Vance, who has long been seen as close to Tucker Carlson.
Reuters reported during the 2024 campaign that Vance’s rise from Trump critic to running mate was helped by influential conservative media figures, including Carlson, who backed him as he moved toward the center of Trump’s political orbit.
There has been no indication that Buckley Carlson’s decision to leave Vance’s team was a direct result of the friction between his father and the White House.
Still, the departure is likely to intensify questions about how Vance will manage his ties to Tucker Carlson as the commentator and the president pull further apart.
