The IDF has announced that Sergeant Aviaad Elchanan Volansky, 21, of Jerusalem, was killed during combat operations in southern Lebanon.

Volansky served in the 77th Battalion of the 7th Brigade and fell while engaged in active operations against Hezbollah forces.

According to an initial IDF probe, Hezbollah operatives launched two anti-tank missiles from an area north of the Litani River in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon, targeting an Israeli Merkava tank.

The first missile was successfully intercepted by the tank’s TROPHY active protection system. However, the second missile struck the tank, killing Volansky and wounding other crew members.

The IDF reported that two officers and two soldiers from the 77th Battalion were lightly wounded in the attack.

Volansky is the fourth IDF soldier to be killed since Israel launched its renewed ground offensive against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Israel mourns the loss of a young soldier who gave his life defending the country.

May his memory be a blessing.
