An Israeli soldier was killed and another seriously wounded in a friendly fire incident overnight in southern Lebanon, the IDF announced.

The fallen soldier has been identified as Sgt. First Class Guy Ludar, 21, a fighter in the Commando Brigade’s elite Maglan Unit from Yuvalim.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. during an arrest operation in the village of Shebaa.

Maglan troops had entered the area to detain a suspect believed to be assisting Hezbollah.

According to an initial IDF investigation, amid the operation, one soldier believed he had identified suspects attempting to flee and opened fire.

The gunfire fatally struck Ludar and seriously injured another soldier.

The mission itself was completed, and the suspect was successfully apprehended and transferred to Israel for questioning.

The IDF says the incident is under further investigation.
