The hardline speaker of Iran’s parliament said that his country is fighting a “major world war,” emphasizing that Iran is preparing itself for a lengthy conflict, with plans to inflict as much damage on the US and its allies.

On Sunday, Iranian state media quoted parliamentary speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf as saying that comments by senior American officials, including President Donald Trump, regarding peace talks are a ruse to lull Iran into a false sense of security.

“Our enemy speaks publicly of negotiations while secretly planning a ground attack, without realizing our forces are waiting for the Americans to enter,” Ghalibaf said.

“We are in a major world war and must prepare ourselves for a long, difficult, and complex path,” Ghalibaf added.

Ghalibaf declared that Iran is determined to continue its missile attacks Israel and American positions, rejecting reports that the war has led to major internal disputes over the future of the war.

“Our launches continue, our missiles will not stop, and our determination has only grown stronger,” Ghalibaf said.

Iran International on Sunday reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian has clashed with Ahmad Vahidi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, condemning IRGC attacks on Gulf Arab states and warning that without a ceasefire, Iran’s economy will collapse within a matter of weeks.

Ghalibaf praised Hezbollah as “an important and effective part of the resistance,” while also lauding other Iranian-backed proxy groups including the Houthis in Iran and Shi’ite militias in Iraq which he said are “fighting bravely.”

Iran and its proxies will inflict heavy losses on the US and Israel, Ghalibaf continued, warning that the war would be turned into a “lesson” for Iran’s enemies.

“We will not allow our enemies to leave without demonstrating our power and turning this war into a lesson for any aggressor.”
