Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Israel’s eastern border with Jordan Wednesday, where he told soldiers that “our enemies want to invade Israel.”

He and Defense Minister Israel Katz reviewed military preparedness and border security measures in the area.

During the visit, Netanyahu met with troops from the IDF’s 96th Division and described the mission along the eastern frontier as vital to Israel’s security, Times of Israel reported.

“It is an extremely important mission to defend the eastern border,” Netanyahu said. “We are taking into account that our enemies want to invade Israel.”

Netanyahu and Katz examined operational readiness and ongoing efforts to strengthen defenses along the border with Jordan.

The visit came amid continued work to reinforce security infrastructure in the Jordan Valley.

Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich had previously toured the area to discuss plans for a fortified barrier designed to prevent the smuggling of weapons and fighters.

Israeli authorities have also increased inspections for trucks entering from Jordan following cross-border security incidents referenced in the material.

The Allenby Crossing has recently operated under heightened security regulations and temporary closures following deadly shooting incidents involving Jordanian truck drivers.

Netanyahu’s visit centered on current military deployment and defensive operations carried out by forces stationed along the eastern border. The IDF’s 96th Division has been involved in those efforts, according to Times of Israel.

Netanyahu’s remarks focused on what he described as threats facing Israel’s eastern border and the need to maintain strong defensive capabilities in the area.

The visit formed part of broader Israeli efforts to reinforce border security and strengthen operational readiness along the Jordan frontier.
