US Senator Lindsey Graham pushed back Thursday against claims that President Donald Trump was stepping away from potential action against Iran, insisting such reports were inaccurate as the crisis over Tehran’s protest crackdown continued to shift.

Graham posted on X that headlines suggesting the president had reconsidered military or political moves were “beyond inaccurate,” saying the decisions ahead were unrelated to Trump’s resolve.

He added that the situation was moving toward “necessary, decisive action” against what he called the “evil Iranian regime” and urged the public to “stay tuned.”

His comments arrived after a volatile 24 hours in which US officials had privately warned that operations against Iran were being considered, even as conditions on the ground appeared to change late Wednesday.

As night fell in Tehran, the White House said it had received indications that the killing of demonstrators had halted. President Trump told reporters he had been “notified pretty strongly” that executions were not planned, adding that he was relying on “good authority” and that any renewed violence would cause considerable anger in Washington.

Iran reopened its airspace Thursday morning after briefly shutting it down during the height of tensions.

State officials also informed families that Erfan Soltani, a 26-year-old detained during the latest wave of anti-government protests and widely viewed as a symbol by demonstrators, would not be put to death.

The president later wrote that Fox News had reported Soltani—and others—would be spared, calling it “good news” and expressing hope the change would hold.

The diplomatic front also began to accelerate. At the request of the United States, the UN Security Council scheduled an emergency session for Thursday afternoon to address the situation inside Iran as protests, arrests, and international warnings continued to mount.
